The Ebel 1911 BTR Chronograph Calibre 137 (specifically reference E9137L73) is widely regarded by collectors as a “forgotten star” and a high-value, underappreciated, and sophisticated luxury sports watch. Introduced around 2006-2007 as part of the “Back to Roots” (BTR) line, this model showcases a bold 44.5mm design, high-end in-house movement, and exceptional build quality that often rivals, or in some cases exceeds, contemporary offerings from competitors like Rolex or Omega.
Key Features and Performance
Movement: It features the Caliber 137, an automatic, COSC-certified in-house chronograph movement. It is known for being a robust and precise caliber, though some users note that servicing can be costly.
Design & Case: The watch boasts a 44.5mm titanium case (sometimes described as steel, depending on the specific 9137L73 model), with some models featuring a carbon fiber-style dial that lends a distinct, rugged aesthetic. Key design elements include the signature 5 screws on the bezel, engine-turned chrono pushers, and a transparent case back.
Dial & Legibility: The watch features a striking, sometimes black, Carbon Fibre style dial with three subdials, polished baton hour markers, and a date window located between 4 and 5 o’clock.
Wearability: Despite its 44.5mm size, the watch is considered comfortable due to its 48.5mm to 49.6mm lug-to-lug distance, which makes it wearable even on smaller wrists. The rubber strap, featuring a deployment clasp, is frequently praised for its comfort.
Water Resistance: The watch is rated for 100 meters, making it suitable for active, everyday wear.
The Ebel 1911 BTR Chronograph is highly recommended for enthusiasts seeking a high-quality, in-house, and well-finished chronograph at a reasonable price point in the pre-owned market. It is a durable and stylish option, representing a strong effort by Ebel to create a top-tier, luxury watch.
Condition
All watches are categorised as brand new, preloved and so on. Vintage watches are shown as they are. For new watches we use some manufacturers' promotional pictures, but any limited edition numbers shown are those of the actual watch.
What we do and don't do
Each watch is fully inspected and is working as it should: hands turn freely, the date changes where fitted, and the watch winds. To bring you great prices we do not service every watch, and we recommend you do so regularly to keep it in good working order.
We bench test each watch for timekeeping and accept a tolerance of two minutes either way. If you have any concerns we are happy to send you a TIMEGRAPH reading with a picture of your watch in test. Some of the more expensive watches have been serviced by third party specialists, and where that is the case the service record is supplied with the watch and shown on the product page.
Watches are not tested for functionality and timekeeping over longer periods of time. For this reason, long-term performance is excluded from our warranty once the returns window has closed. This does not affect your statutory rights.
We aim to supply vintage watches in the best possible condition, but some wear must be expected due to age. This is shown in the pictures supplied. Please ask if you would like more pictures of any particular feature.
