Sapphire glass
Sapphire is up to 7 times harder than steel, and surpassed only by diamonds on the Mohs scale. This makes sapphire glass a great protection for your watch.
Chronograph
Used for measuring time intervals (also called: Stopwatch). Often constructed as smaller dials in the center of the major dial.
Date display
The date is shown on the display.
Luminous layer
A luminous layer provides a long-term lightning effect in the dark. It requires only a short-term exposure to light. Usually the pointers, and sometimes the hour markers are coated with this.
Water protection: 100 meter (10 bar)
This watch can be worn while swimming. 10 bar/100 meter refers to the pressure in water, at that depth, while motionless… and should not be seen as the depth for wearing the watch..
Condensation – important!
Rapid changes in temperature can cause condensation inside the watch. If you notice moisture beneath the glass, you should immediately go to a watchmaker, who can open and dry the watch. Even if the signs of moisture disappears, by themselves… the moisture will not – and will eventually damage your watch – so, visit a professional and remove it permanently. Even waterproof watches are not protected against condensation, so keep that in mind if you plan to go from very hot to very cold temperatures – like from a hot sauna directly to the snow. If condensation occurs, it very rarely (if ever) depends on manufacturing, so if your watch is damaged by moisture, warranty will probably not cover it (it could be manufacturing issues, but… most likely it will be because of the rapid change of temperature = natural causes).
Stainless steel bracelet
Tough, durable and elegant; a bracelet made of stainless steel gives the watch a classic quality look.
Quartz Watch
A battery-powered quartz watch is controlled by fluctuations in a crystal of the mineral quartz. These oscillations change very little over time, which is why quartz is often used – because it retains its accuracy.
Condition
All watches are categorised as brand new, preloved and so on. Vintage watches are shown as they are. For new watches we use some manufacturers' promotional pictures, but any limited edition numbers shown are those of the actual watch.
What we do and don't do
Each watch is fully inspected and is working as it should: hands turn freely, the date changes where fitted, and the watch winds. To bring you great prices we do not service every watch, and we recommend you do so regularly to keep it in good working order.
We bench test each watch for timekeeping and accept a tolerance of two minutes either way. If you have any concerns we are happy to send you a TIMEGRAPH reading with a picture of your watch in test. Some of the more expensive watches have been serviced by third party specialists, and where that is the case the service record is supplied with the watch and shown on the product page.
Watches are not tested for functionality and timekeeping over longer periods of time. For this reason, long-term performance is excluded from our warranty once the returns window has closed. This does not affect your statutory rights.
We aim to supply vintage watches in the best possible condition, but some wear must be expected due to age. This is shown in the pictures supplied. Please ask if you would like more pictures of any particular feature.
